AEPMA HQ caught up with the winner of the 2018 Micro Pest Manager of the Year award, Steve Butcher, owner/operator at Riverside Pest Management in Deniliquin.
1. Your name and company name?
Steve & Jess Butcher from Riverside Pest Management in Deniliquin. Our team includes our children Georgie 5yrs & Olivia 3yrs (Quality and Performance Management), Casey (Technician), Ellie (Administration and jokes department), Ben & Alaska (Termite detection dogs) and Missy (Guard dog)
2. What made you want to get involved in the pest management industry?
After being laid off as a 3rd year Apprentice Builder, Steve's cousin put him on as a trainee pesty. It wasn't something I ever saw myself doing but I eventually started to like the job and stayed.
3. What do you love most about your job?
The satisfaction you get from solving a termite job and watching our termite dogs do what they do.
4. Favourite animal?
It would have to be dogs, both Ben and Alaska our termite detection dogs, Missy our Maltese guard dog and my old mate Mick the American Bulldog RIP.
5. Favourite sports team?
Steve follows the Geelong Cats and Jess and the girls do too by default! Steves heart broke last year when Georgie announced half way through the season that she now followed West Coast, who went on to take out the premiership! Steve also loves cricket so the Aussies and Brisbane Heat are other teams he supports.
6. Best holiday destination?
Torquay, Victoria by far.
7. Three people, living or dead that you would invite to dinner?
Shane Clarke, Carl Barron and Aleasha McCarthy of course.
8. Best thing about the town you live in?
Apart from the river, good and bad news travels fast in a small country town. We use this to our advantage and go above and beyond expectations, it gets around pretty quickly and our word of mouth referrals get us the most work. And of course the Deni Ute Muster with Tim McGraw headlining this year, who's coming?
9. What makes you laugh?
Our Admin Ellies really bad jokes, our kids and Carl Barron.
