A letter from the NSW Chairman.....

I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of AEPMA and our Sponsors - BASF (Gold Sponsor), Ensystex Australasia (Silver Sponsor) and Bayer (Bronze Sponsor) - to invite you all, if you have not already done so, to register for our National Conference on 12, 13 & 14 August 2014 at the Waterview Convention Centre, in Bicentennial Park Homebush.

With topics such as “What’s new….and emerging in Pest Control, What every business needs to know” and “The ABC of Practical Pest Control, How to save Time and Money.”  I have no doubt there are a lot of potential gains for all attending this conference.

Having experienced the Convention Centre on two previous NSW conferences, I can assure you of the quality of the venue, parking, food and all this - at an affordable price.

The Waterview is conveniently located a short distance to the City by ferry or by train, with a range of accommodation to suit all budgets nearby at Sydney Olympic Park.

Sydney has some of the best waterways in the world.  The pre-conference cruise on 12th August, courtesy of Syngenta Crop Protection, will take us along the Parramatta River and beautiful Sydney Harbour for a social night to remember.

For all my NSW colleagues and my interstate friends, I hope to catch with you all for a drink at the conference. For the Sydney Pest Managers this is an opportunity not to be missed with the conference in “our own backyard”.

So why miss out? Register now!!

Kind Regards and I hope to see you all at Homebush on the 12th August

Cockroaches face the pressure of Phantom®

Cockroach control has become a whole lot easier and flexible with the recent release of Phantom® Pressurised Insecticide and the new System III applicator from BASF.

Phantom Pressurised Insecticide has been formulated with chlorfenapyr, a powerful non-repellent active ingredient that is undetectable to pests. It is the first pressurised product of its type to be launched in Australia.    Read More

Termidor New User-Friendly Pack Size to Control More Pests

Termidor® is taking its offering to a new more user-friendly level in Australia, introducing a one litre pack size that will also control of a wider range of pests.

An extensive research and development program, conducted by BASF Pest Control Solutions over a three-year period found smaller pack sizes were much needed for those undertaking less frequent pest control.

“The 2.5 litre Termidor pack size is ideal for those pest managers who do regular termite work. However, we received a lot of feedback from pest managers who were keen to use Termidor on the new pest registrations” said Stewart Paterson, Commercial Manager Pest Control Solutions, BASF.                                   Read more

Ensystex Feature ATTRATHOR at AEPMA Conference - A Revolutionary Micro-encapsulated Liquid Bait

Steve Broadbent, Ensystex’s Regional Director, has advised that Ensystex’s next generation of cockroach control measures, ATTRATHOR Targeted Insecticide will be featured at the forthcoming AEPMA Conference in Sydney. ATTRATHOR is the world’s first liquid cockroach bait, powered by micro-encapsulated fipronil.

Cockroach control historically began with liquids and sprays. Then came gel baits, which are generally considered more effective and environmentally friendlier, but labour intensive. Now ATTRATHOR revolutionises cockroach control again, using a targeted film application containing Quick-release Insect Attractant Micro-capsules™ with Controlled-release Active Microcapsules™ of fipronil to give improved efficacy compared to that of gel baits, and it is much quicker to apply.    Read More

A Fond Farewell to Mr Bob Gunn

Robert (“Bob”) James Gunn of Bob Gunn Pest Control passed away on the 22nd June 2014 in Brisbane.

After serving in the Navy on some 32 small ships during the Vietnam War, Bob started up Gunn Pest Control in Sydney, which he sold in 1987.  He followed this with a move to Brisbane, where he started up Bob Gunn Termite Solutions in Brisbane 1994 and sold in 2000 to pursue his love of camping and travelling around Australia.

Bob was a colourful figure in the Pest Control Industry notorious for his love of beer.  He believed that a carton contained 24 cans for a reason….1 for every hour of the day.

A beloved family man, our thoughts go to his widow Ann, and his children and grandchildren.
QLD Branch Breakfast Meeting

The QLD branch met on Wednesday, 9th July as part of its ongoing breakfast programme.

Queensland branch members were given breakfast, free coffee and a sausage sizzle as well as the benefit of two interesting addresses on different issues.  The first was Chris Hill who provided background to members on emergency responses in respect of chemical spills highlighting issues affecting pest managers. Chris’s address was certainly interesting and provided much food for thought.

Mr Terry Ryan then provided an overview of the federal budget and the politics of Canberra and entertained members with an enlightening speech on the political process and how the budget message and manipulation of Canberra politics will make for an interesting environment for the next couple of years.

If you are a Queensland member and missed this function, don’t miss the next one! Details to be advised.
